How WILLNET came to be

WILLNET (Women in Learning & Leadership Network) was created to provide women with practical opportunities to grow their leadership skills while building meaningful connections with other women on similar journeys.

Too often, women are told to simply "be confident" or "step up," yet they are rarely given the tools, mentorship, or supportive environments needed to actually develop those leadership capabilities.

At WILLNET, leadership is not about titles. It is about influence, growth, and the courage to impact your world — whether that's your workplace, your family, your community, or beyond. We believe it can be learned, practiced, and developed in community.

The person behind the mission

Aisha Umar — leader, strategist, community builder

WILLNET was founded by Aisha Umar, a leader deeply committed to empowering women and supporting leadership development at every stage of life.

With more than a decade of experience across nonprofit, business, and community sectors, Aisha has worked extensively in program development, leadership training, and social impact initiatives.

Throughout her career, Aisha observed a consistent pattern: talented women — brilliant, capable, ready — holding back. Not because of lack of ambition, but because the infrastructure to support their growth simply wasn't there. WILLNET was created to change that.

After years of observing the leadership gap that talented women faced, the vision for WILLNET begins to take shape.

Mentorship Circles Launch

The flagship Mentorship Circles program is established, providing structured peer-to-peer support and guided leadership reflection.

Girls Corner Initiative

WILLNET expands its mission to reach teenage girls through Girls Corner, building the next generation of confident leaders early.
